84,970 matched videos across 17 app categories · Snapshot of 14 August 2026
Instagram holds 55.8% of the 2,643 app videos we have matched to a Medical app, and 21.4% of the 2,799 matched to a Personalization app. That is a 2.6-fold spread, and Medical is the only category of the 17 where Instagram holds more than half.
The number is a fact about our library before it is a fact about the market. We count videos we collected and matched to an app. A category's split is shaped by which apps our customers asked about, and by how much we scraped for them. We hold organic content for 8,938 of the 34,624 apps in the library.
It is also a supply figure and carries no outcome. Nothing here says an Instagram post in Medical travels further than a TikTok one. What it says is where the posts are, which is the first thing you need before you go looking for someone to make one.

Matched videos per platform, counted on 14 August 2026, ordered by Instagram's share of the two.
Every category whose TikTok and Instagram counts both come in under the counting cap. The share divides Instagram by the two platform counts added together.

In 13 of these 17 categories an unfiltered count of the same category returns the two platform counts added together, to the video. In Books & Reference, Business, Graphics & Design and Sports that unfiltered count sits above the cap. It could not be checked, so the total column there is the sum and nothing more. Apps in library counts apps we hold in that category. It does not count the apps these videos were matched to, which this snapshot does not carry.
84,970 matched videos across 17 app categories · Snapshot of 14 August 2026
The order of the table is not the order of category size. Medical holds 2,643 videos, ninth of the 17, and leads on Instagram share. Business is the largest at 14,625 videos and sits in the middle of the share column at 38.1%.
Five categories sit above 44%: Medical, Navigation, Parenting, Weather and Events. Three sit below 28%: Personalization at 21.4%, News at 26.8% and Dating at 27.4%. A founder in Personalization who briefs an Instagram creator first works against a 3.7-to-1 supply ratio, at 2,199 TikTok videos to 600.
Two rows carry a lot of video against few apps. Events holds 1,481 matched videos and 25 apps in the library. Beauty holds 1,377 and 50.
We cannot say how many distinct apps produced those videos. A share in a small category can be a handful of companies' posting habits wearing a category's name.
Instagram's share of the matched videos in each category, computed against the two platform counts added together. The video counts behind every bar are in the table above.

84,970 matched videos across 17 app categories · Snapshot of 14 August 2026
Fourteen categories are missing because our counter stops at 10,000
What the cap is, which categories it removes, and the four where a ceiling survives it.
Our browse counter runs through a subquery capped at 10,000. Above that it returns a saturation value, which means 10,000 or more and nothing else. It is not a number, so it cannot be divided by, subtracted from, or printed.
Ten categories are capped on both platforms and are excluded outright. They are Education, Entertainment, Finance, Food & Drink, Games, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, Photo & Video, Shopping and Travel. We know each holds at least 10,000 videos on each platform and we know nothing else about the split.
Four more are capped on TikTok alone, and those keep a usable ceiling. If TikTok is at least 10,000, then Instagram's share is at most its own count divided by that count plus 10,000.
- at most 47.1%
- Instagram ceiling in Productivity, from 8,916 Instagram videos
- at most 39.4%
- Instagram ceiling in Utilities, from 6,497 Instagram videos
- at most 37.5%
- Instagram ceiling in Social Networking, from 6,002 Instagram videos
- at most 35.8%
- Instagram ceiling in Music, from 5,565 Instagram videos
4 categories capped on the TikTok side alone · Snapshot of 14 August 2026
All four ceilings sit under 50%, so none of those categories can be Instagram-majority however far past the cap their TikTok counts run. Medical survives as the only Instagram-majority category across 21 of the 31, and the remaining 10 are unknown in both directions.
A ceiling is worth printing because the alternative is silence about four categories that hold real volume. Productivity alone holds at least 18,916 matched videos across the two platforms.
The platform decides the size of account you will be briefing
Follower band of the posting account, by platform, from a separate 90-day draw across five other categories.
How 3,293 videos split by the follower count recorded on the posting account, read one platform at a time. These five categories are not the 17 in the table above.
| Platform | Videos | Under 10,000 followers | 10,000 to 100,000 | 100,000 to 1M | Over 1M |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 1,955 | 735 (37.6%) | 542 (27.7%) | 482 (24.7%) | 196 (10.0%) |
| 1,338 | 142 (10.6%) | 254 (19.0%) | 666 (49.8%) | 276 (20.6%) |
The five categories behind this draw are Education, Finance, Health & Fitness, Photo & Video and Productivity. Every one of them is capped and absent from the 17-category table. The rows were drawn as the 100 most recent videos for each of nine video openings per category. Rare openings are fully represented and crowded ones are capped at 100. It is a draw and not a random sample.
3,293 videos with a follower count, across five other categories · 90 days to 14 August 2026
The two platforms hold different kinds of account. 735 of the 1,955 TikTok videos in this draw came from accounts under 10,000 followers. On Instagram it was 142 of 1,338.
Read the other end and the gap widens. 942 of the 1,338 Instagram videos, which is 70.4%, came from accounts above 100,000 followers. On TikTok the same bands hold 678 of 1,955, which is 34.7%.
That is the part of this page a founder with one budget can act on. A category weighted toward Instagram is one where the people posting about apps are mostly six-figure accounts. Where TikTok leads, sub-10,000 accounts are a live option. We measured that pattern in five categories and we are extending it to the other 17 as an expectation, not as a finding.
This page counts supply, and stops there
Every figure above counts videos that exist in our library. None of them attaches an outcome to a video. We hold no installs per post, no link clicks and no store visits traced back to a post, so nothing here says which platform converts. We also do not compare view counts across the two platforms. A TikTok play count and an Instagram view count are each platform's own counter. Dividing one by the other produces a number that looks like a finding and is not one. The honest use of this page is to decide where to go looking, and to decide it with the account sizes in mind.
Two counters disagree about how big a category is, by up to 47.9%
The browse counts used above, set against the category facet counter, which counts a different thing.
The same categories under two counters. The gap column reports how far the facet counter sits from the browse count used in this article.
| Category | Browse count | Facet count | Facet against browse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty | 1,377 | 1,990 | 44.5% higher |
| Auto & Vehicles | 1,085 | 1,537 | 41.7% higher |
| Graphics & Design | 10,107 | 13,501 | 33.6% higher |
| Business | 14,625 | 14,780 | 1.1% higher |
| Personalization | 2,799 | 2,523 | 9.9% lower |
| Communication | 8,570 | 6,288 | 26.6% lower |
| Events | 1,481 | 772 | 47.9% lower |
The facet counter groups by the matched app's category and counts a video once per category it links to. A video matched to apps in two categories is counted in both, so the column sums above the library total. The browse counter applies the filters the site itself applies. The two are not nested, they disagree in both directions, and no share in this article mixes them.
7 of the 17 categories, under both counters · Snapshot of 14 August 2026
Every share in this article uses the browse counter on both sides, so the disagreement above changes no percentage on this page. It changes what a percentage means.
A category is a property of the app, and a video inherits it through the app it was matched to. Match a video to two apps in two categories and the facet counter records it twice. Filter the same video in the product and it appears under both filters as well.
We print both counters because a reader checking our category page against this article will find two different totals. The gap runs to 47.9% in Events. The gap is real and it is a counting rule, not an error in either number.
What these numbers cannot tell you
Five limits, starting with the one that decides how much weight the table can carry.
This is our library and not the market. Every count is a count of videos we collected and matched to an app. Scraping is driven by what customers asked about. A category with more videos is a category we collected more of, and a low count is never evidence that nobody posts. We hold organic content for 8,938 of the 34,624 apps in the library. These figures describe Apptonic's own library as of 14 August 2026. The library is a growing sample of the app market, not a census.
Fourteen of 31 categories have no share at all. Our counter stops at 10,000, and 10 categories are above it on both platforms. Four keep a ceiling and no value. The categories with the most app content are exactly the ones we cannot split. The table describes the middle and small end of the library and says nothing about the top.
We cannot report how concentrated a category is. These files hold counts and no rows. We do not know how many distinct apps or creators produced the videos in any category. Events holds 1,481 videos against 25 apps in the library, and Beauty holds 1,377 against 50. Neither figure tells us whether five companies produced most of the posting.
The follower bands come from five other categories. Education, Finance, Health & Fitness, Photo & Video and Productivity are all capped. None of them appears in the 17-category table. Their 3,293 videos were drawn newest-first per video opening across a 90-day window, which over-represents rare openings. Treat the account-size pattern as a reason to check your own category and not as a measurement of it.
Unmatched content is invisible here. A category filter resolves through the app a video is matched to. A video we hold but never matched is in none of these counts. Content is linked to apps by store links where we can find them and by name matching otherwise. Name matching is deliberately generous and it is not perfect.
How we counted
Every figure comes from one frozen snapshot of the library, harvested on 14 August 2026. Nothing on this page is an estimate. Every number is a row count our own counters returned, or a share computed from two of them.
One query per category returned three counts. The first is videos matched to an app in that category and posted on TikTok. The second filters the same to Instagram, and the third applies no platform filter. Every share on this page divides the Instagram count by the two platform counts added together. In 13 of the 17 categories the unfiltered count equals that sum to the video. That is what tells us the library holds these two platforms and no third. In Books & Reference, Business, Graphics & Design and Sports the unfiltered count came back at the cap. The sum is the only total available there, and the table says so.
The cap is the reason 14 categories are absent. Browse counts run through a subquery capped at 10,000 and return a saturation value above it, which means 10,000 or more and nothing else. A saturated value is never divided, subtracted or printed here. Ten categories are capped on both platforms and are excluded. Music, Productivity, Social Networking and Utilities are capped on TikTok alone. Their Instagram counts are real, and their shares have a computable ceiling: the Instagram count over that count plus 10,000. Those four are printed as ceilings and never as values. An exact count would lift the cap. It costs about 70 seconds per call against the box that serves customers, so it was not used anywhere in this harvest.
The follower bands are a separate measurement and not a subset of the counts above. 3,311 videos were drawn newest-first across five categories and nine video openings, all published after 16 May 2026. 3,293 of them carried a follower count for the posting account. Each was bucketed by the follower count recorded at scrape time. The four bands hold 877, 796, 1,148 and 472 videos and sum to 3,293, so band sizes and platform mixes are exact counts. The five categories are Education, Finance, Health & Fitness, Photo & Video and Productivity. Every one is capped and therefore absent from the 17-category table. The draw takes the 100 most recent videos per opening per category. Rare openings are fully represented and crowded ones are capped, so it is not a random sample of those categories.
No view count appears on this page. Our sibling article on follower bands states that a TikTok play count and an Instagram view count are not comparable to each other. A platform split is exactly the place where comparing them would mislead. We hold no installs, clicks or store visits traced to an individual post, so no figure here is attached to an outcome.
The category facet counter is reported alongside the browse counts and is never mixed with them. It counts a video once for each category it links to through a matched app, and applies none of the filters the site applies. It disagrees with the browse count in both directions, by up to 47.9% in Events. Both are printed so a reader who checks one against the other finds the gap explained instead of unexplained.
App counts per category and the library coverage figures come from the same snapshot. A category filter resolves through the app a video is matched to, so unmatched content is absent from every count on this page. Content is linked to apps by store links where we can find them and by name matching otherwise. Name matching is deliberately generous and it is not perfect. These figures describe Apptonic's own library as of 14 August 2026. The library is a growing sample of the app market, not a census.

Frequently asked
- Is app content on TikTok or on Instagram?
- Both, in a proportion that depends on the category. Across the 17 categories we can count, 53,730 of 84,970 matched videos are TikTok posts and 31,240 are Instagram posts. TikTok holds 63.2% of that total and leads in 16 of the 17. Medical is the exception, at 1,476 Instagram videos against 1,167 TikTok, which is 55.8% Instagram.
- Which categories are the most Instagram-weighted?
- Medical at 55.8% of 2,643 videos, Navigation at 47.9% of 5,081 and Parenting at 45.7% of 1,380. Then Weather at 44.8% of 1,934 and Events at 44.2% of 1,481. The lowest are Personalization at 21.4% of 2,799, News at 26.8% of 5,508 and Dating at 27.4% of 1,411. All figures are the snapshot of 14 August 2026.
- Why are only 17 of 31 categories here?
- Our browse counter stops at 10,000 and returns a saturation value above it. A category above that on either platform has no computable share. Ten are capped on both sides: Education, Entertainment, Finance, Food & Drink, Games, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, Photo & Video, Shopping and Travel. Music, Productivity, Social Networking and Utilities are capped on TikTok alone. For those four the Instagram share has a ceiling and no value: at most 35.8% in Music and 47.1% in Productivity. Social Networking is at most 37.5% and Utilities at most 39.4%.
- Does a higher share mean the platform works better for that category?
- No. This counts where app videos exist in our library, and it attaches no outcome to them. We hold no installs per post and no clicks per post. A TikTok play count and an Instagram view count are each platform's own counter, and we do not compare them. Read the table as a map of where to look for creators in a category, and not as a ranking of which platform performs.
- What size of account will I be dealing with on each platform?
- We drew 3,293 videos in five other categories, published in the 90 days to 14 August 2026. 735 of the 1,955 TikTok videos came from accounts under 10,000 followers, which is 37.6%. On Instagram it was 142 of 1,338, which is 10.6%, while 942 of the 1,338 came from accounts above 100,000 followers, which is 70.4%. Those five categories are Education, Finance, Health & Fitness, Photo & Video and Productivity, none of which appear in the 17-category table.
- How many videos does the library hold for these categories?
- 84,970 across the 17, from 2,643 in Medical to 14,625 in Business. A category filter resolves through the app a video is matched to. Every count here is matched content, and unmatched videos are invisible to it. We hold organic content for 8,938 of the 34,624 apps in the library, which is 25.8% of them.
